Why join the Skating Club of Maine?

As a member of the Skating Club of Maine, you will have access to the following resources.

  • Private Coaches – SCM has stringent standards for its skating coaches. The Club reviews the credentials and monitors the training of each coach to ensure that they are teaching at the appropriate levels.
  • Test Sessions – As you progress through the skating learning curve, you must pass tests before a panel of judges credentialed by U.S. Figure Skating. SCM organizes test sessions by securing ice time, judges, and the people power required to run the session and to process the necessary paperwork associated with the recordkeeping for each skater.
  • Club Shows and Exhibitions – Membership in SCM allows you to perform in shows and competitions sponsored and sanctioned by the Club. Depending on the event, you must meet the qualifications specified in the Skating Club of Maine’s Show Rules.
  • Sanctioned Competitions – SCM members often compete in local, regional, and even national skating events. Club membership in good-standing ensures that the you are welcome at all events sanctioned by the Club and U.S. Figure Skating.
  • Skating Magazine – You automatically become a member of U.S. Figure Skating when you join the Skating Club of Maine. One of the benefits of a U.S. Figure Skating membership is a subscription to the monthly “Skating” magazine the covers local, regional, national, and international skating news.

The biggest benefit of becoming a Skating Club of Maine member is the fun of it all!  You will meet new friends and establish a comradery with others who share your interest in a great sport!
